Just 10 days to M-day. I haven’t posted forever, but I have been keeping the training page updated.
I’ve missed quite a few days of running because of one injury or another. First there was the thigh that really started to hurt just after we completed the Sugar Grove 5K. I think I worked through that and was making a grand recovery all the way up to my 20-miler last week.
Out on the Great Western Trail to Virgil and back – 20 miles. It was a fabulous day for running. Started cool and warmed up to about 75 by the time I finished. I didn’t take enough fluids and I developed a shin splint along the way. I was taking more frequent walking-rest breaks towards the end and when I got to mile 18 to take a break from running for what I thought would be the last time, I just couldn’t get going again. Walked the last two miles and my left shin hurt like heck by the time I finished.
It’s taken a week to get back running – 4 miles yesterday, 5+ miles today.
I’m also playing with the datk art of chiropractics! I attended a “Final Preparations For Your Marathon” seminar at Dick Pond last week given by chiropractor David Ginsberg. I took him up on a $25 evaluation. I’m now $125 in with one “adjustment” behind me. Basically, my lower back is a mess and we’ll try to stabilize over the coming weeks and months – marathon included,
Some great massage work on my shin has help the recovery from the splint, I think.
We’re all nervous about the marathon. Lesley slipped on some wet leaves this morning during hr walk/run and really banged her knee. Jeff is having all sorts of tests to see what’s wrong with his left leg – hairline fracture suspected.
