Thursday 2 miles, Friday rest, Saturday 50 minute walk, Sunday 3 miles – this sequence seemed like too little. Yesterday’s run was harder than I thought it would be, and I think that was because I ossified between Thursday and Sunday.
I counted a couple of hours of yard work as the 50 minute walk [...]

So here’s my little morning routine on my run days before I head out. After getting up and scratching my butt for a few seconds I put the kettle on to make a cup of tea, then I get into the running togs … I give the ones I wore yesterday a little sniff [...]

I write stuff here for the record. I know that these stats of “ran this far”, “took this long”, “had a cardiac arrest”, etc., make for pretty boring reading, but I’ve got the habit now, and maybe I’ll be able to sprinkle a bit of humor in every now and then.
I’ve been running consistently [...]

So I was in a lockdown church retreat this past weekend that started at 730am on Saturday and finished at about 3pm today. That is a story in and of itself, and for another time. Suffice to say it was an awesome experience. The only downside was that there was very little [...]

I wasn’t deliberately managing my 2-mile run this morning, but it’s interesting to look at my bpm and pace. I did intentionally increase my pace in the second half of the run.
Crossover-1 1250 yards 154 bpm
Crossover-2 1950 yards 164 bpm
Crossover-3 2650 yards 169 bpm
Finish 3600 yards 169 bpm

You can see some of the background on this here in my resources section.
For now I’m going to use a MHR of 200 bpm. I’ve measured my resting heart rate at 64 bpm – just after I woke up, and I’ve created the table on the right to see where I am.
So this morning [...]

I thought I’d use part of the two miler to take a stab at estimating my maximum heart rate.
Out I ran for about 7 minutes to the cross-over on the Leroy Oaks figure of eight at a easy pace … 154 bpm.
Then I stepped it up to moderate round the top loop and measure again [...]

So I’ve been reading up on heart rate vis à vis marathon training and there’s lots of information out there on the net. Can’t vouch for it’s authenticity. However, I’m scraping the stuff that makes most sense to me and I’m going to try to use what I’ve learned in the [...]
long one …

The weather was soooo nice today. Sunny, low 50s with a cool breeze. Sunday is my “long one” day. At about 1230pm I set of on the double – figure – eight – extended around Leroy Oaks – that gets me just past the four-mile mark. Ran (if that’s the right word) [...]
